The 2018 LPGA Amateur Golf Association (AGA) annual Dixie Cup Challenge was held July 6th through the 8th at Pinehurst Country Club. Blistering heat for Friday’s practice round kicked off the weekend of golf and fun for the 128 women from the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee.

The Dixie Cup was first held in 2001 as a weekend getaway for LPGA AGA members from NC, SC, GA, TN, and AL, with a match play tournament pitting the Carolinas (NC and SC) against the HOTS (Heart of the South) (GA, TN, and AL) to add to the fun.  The fun, fellowship, and competition of the Dixie Cup has continued ever since.

For the early arrivals, the Sandhills Chapter hosted a social at the Magnolia Inn on Thursday evening. The Dixie Cup attendees and the Sandhills Chapter members enjoyed appetizers, drinks, and live music.

Torrential rain greeted the golfers for the Saturday 4-ball competition on Pinehurst course number one. Despite the soggy conditions, most teams completed their round. The point tally was close enough to leave Sunday’s round open for either the Carolinas or HOTS to take the trophy.

It was a perfect golf day under the Carolina blue skies on Sunday for the final singles round. With most of the matches being played through the 15th hole; the early finishes waited for the final groups to finish to learn the final points tally.

The Carolinas bested the HOTS to take home the trophy. During the weekend, two women scored aces on Pinehurst course five. Overall the group had fun and enjoyed golfing in the ‘cradle’ of American golf. So much so, that they overwhelmingly voted to return to Pinehurst next year.
